4D The Amazing 4D
As the development of the technology, people can enjoy what the high-technology brings. Before, people watched the movie with watching the screen, but in the recent years, the new technology called 3D gives people the enjoyable way to enjoy the movie. The special feature of 3D is that it gives people the real vision, when people put on the 3D glass, they will feel as if they are in the movie, witnessing all the things happens. But now, 4D is coming, it is more advantaged than 3D, it makes people feel more closer to the scene. When there is shocking things happened, the chair will move a little, people feel what’s happening in the movie. The high technology brings people a lot of fun, in the future, I believe that there will be more and more high technology invented.
The Advantages of Metro
Last week, I went to Guangzhou with my friends. We were so excited about the trip, it took us three hours to arrive in Guangzhou railway station. At first, we were so confused about how to get out of the railway station, then we saw the big sign which showed us to take the metro. When we got to the subway station, a big picture was showed in front of us, we figured out our way quickly. When we were in the metro, we counted the time, we never thought it was so quickly, we just spent ten minutes to reach our destination, we found our hotel soon. Metro is so convenient, we don’t have to go out of the railway station, we just need to find the subway’s entrance. What’s more, it is very fast, unlike bus, which will turn around many roads, metro just goes the straight line.
The Things Are Neglected
In our life, we will be nice to other people, while when facing our parents, we are impatient and even argue with them. People always think their parents don’t understand them and refuse to talk to them, they show the worse temper in the ones who love them and will never leave them, but they show their kindest fact to the strangers. It is a sad thing, the reason that people show their badness to the dearest lies in that people just get used to the presentation of their relatives, they know in their hearts that their parents won’t leave them, no matter what they do. Our relatives will never leave us, they take care us all the time, they are the dearest persons in the world. People neglect it, so we should be nice to our parents, love them and communicate with them.
The Sport I Like Best
When talk about the sport, I will feel very excited, because I like sport so much, I love playing tennis, it is my favorite sport. I remember one day when I came home after school, I opened the TV and watched a tennis match. At first, I was caught by the beautiful tennis women players, they wore the beautiful outfits, when I had been watching for ten minutes, I found the match was so excellent, from then on, I started to watch tennis match. I have learned the tennis, I will call my friends to play with me when I have time. Now I am a big fan of the tennis match, I will watch the tour matches once I am free. My love to tennis is more than I could express, I am so lucky to have some friends who share the same interest with me.
The Value of Reading Books
What is the purpose of study, most students will tell you that they want to find their own value and survive in the society. Reading books will also help people gain knowledge and fulfill their value, but in my opinion, the value of reading books not only contains what has mentioned above, but also contains the happiness from the mind. When people read the good books, they will be immerged into the books and find themselves being part of the story. They can gain a lot from the books, learning how to face the problems or what kind of person they should be. Good books are like the teachers, they show people how to fulfill their value and lead people to the success. People should choose the good books to read, those books which are worthless should be neglected. The value of books is infinite.
The Awkward Questions
When Spring Festival comes, a lot of young people will go back to their hometown and spend the time to stay with their families. As they work out for a long time, their relatives will be very curious about them, they want to know how these young people are going on, so they will ask the awkward questions, such as they will ask them if they have a girlfriend or boyfriend, how much is their salary, when will they buy the house…All of these questions are private, young people don’t want to answer it, most of them just do the normal job and don’t get the high salary. Some people even don’t want to go home just to avoid being asked such questions. The elder people should considerate the young people, they’d better not to ask such questions which will embarrass the young people. They can talk other things.

Should We Put A Limit on Private Cars?
With the rapiddevelopment of Chinese economic and the improvement of living standards ofordinary people, more and more private cars are on road. Some people thinkprivate cars can bring great convenience to the owners while others argue thatgovernment should put a limit on private cars. In my humble opinion, we shouldput a limit on private cars.
First of all, themore private cars, the more traffic jams. If people stuck on a traffic jam, itwill cost them a lot of time, some people even late for work. What’s more, nowadays finding a parking spot is much harder than before because there aretoo many cars on streets. Sometimes you just arrive at the destination, but youjust cannot find a place to park your car. The place is so crowded that youhave to park in other place which may be far away from your destination.
Secondly, theprice of gasoline and repairs are constantly rising, not to mention the pricesfor the insurance and the fear of being stolen. If you do not make enoughmoney, you can barely pay for the fees of the cars. This can cause great burdento your daily life.
Last but notleast, the cars produce tens of thousands of carbon dioxide, which will creategreenhouse effect and other serious environmental pollution. Someenvironmentalists predict that in the next few years, the ozone layer willfully disappear and will increase the rate of getting skin cancer. And the airwe breathe in is not as pure as before, do we really need to sacrifice ourfuture to enjoy the so called convenience?
Due to thesereason, I think people should think twice before they buy a private car. Weshould not only consider the increasing cost of owning a car, but also shouldthink about the future we have. It’s not only a personal thing, but also thewhole country, the whole world.
The Disadvantages of Private Cars
As cars are more affordable nowadays, thenumber of private car owners spurs. With cars, we can go anywhere anytime wewant. However, for the sake of protecting our environmentand of the public travelling convenience, it is a bad news.
First, more private cars mean more pollution. As the number of private cars increases shar*, the off gas surges.Consequently, the air quality is decreasing and even affects our health. Inconsideration of our environment and our health, I don’t think private carsbring us good to both our planet’s environment and our health.
Second, people are tending to drive carsthemselves going to work so that the traffic jam is serious in most cities. Wheneveryou go and look around in cities, you can see lots of cars not only parking alongthe road but also runs on the street. Especially around morning and evening, you can hardly move a step if you drive a car because of the heavy traffic. Nomatter how many roads the government has built, without lessening the number ofthe private cars, the need for road is always bigger than the supplied. Therefore, the most effective way is to encourage people take public transportationso that we can facilitate ourselves and also others.
All in all, private cars are so convenientfor us to getting around. However, take our air environment, our health and theconvenience of public life into account; we shouldn’t encourage people to buymore private cars. Instead, we should persuade people to take public transportationas often as possible to make our environment better and better.
Online Education
With the widespread of com*r, more andmore people tend to use Internet to get information and learn knowledge, especially, many educational agent use online class to teacher their students. Many people think it is convenient for students to obtain knowledge by onlineeducation and can save students lots of time spending on traveling between homeand school. Some people think students can’t focus on studying by onlineeducation. In my opinion, we can benefit a lot by online education.
Firstly, online education can save studentstime. We all know that traditional education require students to go to schoolor certain place to obtain knowledge. Therefore, students have to spend lots oftime on travel between home and school. However, online education can save studentslots of time. They don’t have to spend time on traveling to school and home.
Secondly, students can get more knowledgeby online education. Students can search for their study materials immediatelyduring break time by Internet. While by traditional education, students can’tfind any useful resource in school for they have no access to get the relative knowledgeby their limited books.
All in all, online education not only cansave much time, but it can help students get more knowledge than traditionaleducation.
Should Children Learn English in a Young Age?
With the increasing of social competition, peoplepay more and more attention on the young generation. Especially their parentswill take every means to help their children get prepared for adapting thesociety. Thus, learning English in a very young age becomes very common amonglittle children. Some people agree with it, but some hold the opposite view. Inmy opinion, parents should not force their children to study English in a veryyoung age.
To begin with, children in a young ageshould live happily, instead of gaining burden. Childhood plays a veryimportant role in one’s whole life, because it takes up a part in his innermind. A child having a happy childhood may be a sunshine boy, when he grows up.But a child carry a heavy burden in his childhood, he may be pessimistic in thefuture. And learning English in a young age is no doubt to deprive children’shappy childhood. How can they be happy to be enforced to learn something theydon’t like? Grow up healthily is more important to a person.
Secondly, people should not forget theirorigin. According to the present situation, learning English is verysignificant, but learning Chinese is also couldn’t ignore. If a person can’tlearn his mother language well, how can he make others believe he can learnother things well. So I think they don’t need to learn a second language in ahungry. They can learn English when they grow older.
To sum up, for the sake of children’shealthy grow up, the *s should not force them to learn English in a youngage. Learning English can wait.
Students Should Be Encouraged to Take Part-time Jobs
More and more college students are taking part-time jobs. Some people argue that part-time jobs take up too much time that students have no time to focus on their studies, whereas others think that doing part-time jobs should be encouraged in that students can get rich experience from the jobs. As far as I concern, I think we should encourage students to do part-time jobs for the following reasons.
First of all, part-time job experience provides the opportunities for students to know about what jobs are really like and enhance their personal abilities. What’s more, such experience can help them be prepared psychologically for their future jobs. Second, the part-time jobs can enrich students’ daily life activities and help them to make more friends. If one has friends from different fields, these friends will help him with his personal development in the future. Third, taking part-time jobs can reduce the financial pressure. Many college students still ask their parents for money. This can be a heavy burden to some families. But if the students can do some part-time jobs and make money on their own, the family pressure can be relieved to some extent. Last but not least, part-time jobs can help students to find out their strengths and shortcomings. When they overcome the difficulties, they will become more confidence.
To sum up, doing part-time jobs has more advantages than disadvantages. The students can not live in the ivory tower forever. They will meet the challenges from this cruel world sooner or later. And doing part-time job is the first step to walk in this society.
Cars & the Youth
It has been widely reported that theeconomic recession has hobbled young people in debt and joblessness, making themless likely to buy some of the staples of *hood, including cars. It becomesa big problem to car company, they may have tried to hook in young drivers, like most consumer companies, they like to appeal to young people early on, butlearned it was not working.
Several reasons can account for thisphenomenon. In the first place, cars have become less affordable forcash-strapped young *s, and driving simple does not seem as cool as it oncewas. For a young * who just coming out of college, it is almost impossibleto buy a car by themselves within 3 years. Besides, many young *s arewilling to live in the place where is nearby their work place with publictransportation, according to the survey, and some of them are able to catch aride with others.
Life comes in a package. This package includes happiness and sorrow, failure and success, hope and despair. Life is a learning process. Experiences in life teach us new lessons and make us a better person. With each passing day we learn to handle various situations.
Love
Love plays a pivotal role on out life. Love makes you feel wanted. Without love a person could go hayward and also become cruel and ferocious. In the early stage of our life, our parents are the ones who shower us with unconditional love and care, they teach us about what is right and wrong, good and bad. But we always tend to take this for granted. It is only after marriage and having kids that a person understands and becomes sensitive to others feelings. Kids make a person responsible and mature and help us to understand life better.
Happiness and Sorrow
Materialistic happiness is short-lived, but happiness achieved by bringing a smile on others face gives a certain level of fulfillment. Peace of mind is the main link to happiness. No mind is happy without peace. We realize the true worth of happiness when we are in sorrow. Sorrow is basically due to death of a loved one, failure and despair. But these things are temporary and pass away.
Failure and Success
Failure is the path to success. It helps us to touch the sky, teaches us to survive and shows us a specific way. Success brings in money, fame, pride and self-respect. Here it becomes very important to keep our head on out shoulder. The only way to show our gratitude to God for bestowing success on us is by being humble, modest, courteous and respectful to the less fortunate ones.
Hope and Despair
Hope is what keeps life going. Parents always hope their children will do well. Hope makes us dream. Hope builds in patience. Life teaches us not to despair even in the darkest hour, because after every night there is a day. Nothing remains the same we have only one choice keep moving on in life and be hopeful.
Life teaches us not to regret over yesterday, for it has passed and is beyond our control. Tomorrow is unknown, for it could either be bright or dull. So the only alternative is work hard today, so that we will enjoy a better tomorrow.

People are trying, for goodness' sake. They really are. When they give you study tips, they are legitimately trying to help you. If you've heard any of the following worst study tips in history, then don't take the advice. Please. Do yourself this one small favor. Your GPA and general intelligence will thank you.
1.Don't Get Out of Your Seat Until You've Learned Everything.
Now this is just one of the worst study tips ever. And I've head well-meaning people use it over and over again. "Stick with it! If you sit down and stay focused until you know it all, you'll get a better score." So people will try to do it. They'll stay in their seats, sweating, hungry, thirsty and exhausted until their brains are no longer even processing information anymore. Better advice: Take breaks. Study for forty-five minutes and take a quick ten-minute break to regroup/find sustenance/use the john, etc. Breaks are your friends. Breaks will help you actually stay focused.
2.It Doesn't Matter If You Cram.
Well sure, it does, if you're actually interested in learning the material. If, however, you sim* want to put the content into your short-term memory banks for the test, then it actually may not matter if you cram. But if you're in it for the long-haul, and want to remember because you're interested in retaining the knowledge, then cramming is the worst possible way to study. You need time and repetition to truly commit anything to your long-term memory unless your mind is a steel trap.
3.Study With Your Best Friend.
No. Let's repeat this. No. Studying with your best friend is just asking for trouble, especially if your friend is the goof-off type. You'll end up playing basketball. Or gossiping. Or jumping off the roof into the swimming pool at three A.M. (Don't ask.) But seriously, it's not a great idea, even if your best friend is a great student. If you really want to study with a pal, go with someone who will help you stay on track and you aren't going to be tempted to goof around with like...your mom. Not interested in studying with her?
4.You Don't Need To Learn Any Testing Strategies. Just Take the Test.
Now that's just a lie. Many people improve their tests scores by learning test-taking strategies and implementing them on test day. It makes sense! If you understand that your chances of getting an answer correct improves drastically if you can eliminate a couple of answers on a multiple-choice question, your score will be higher. And that is a strategy. There are dozens more for every possible test. Learn them. Do yourself a favor.
5. Study From Your Notes For a Final or Midterm.
Sure, studying from your notes for a midterm or final is a good idea, but only if you combine those notes with quizzes, the book, and handouts in class. Let's be honest. You may not be a perfect note-taker. You've probably missed a few things. If your teacher or professor doesn't give you a test study guide, (or even if he or she does and you're left to fill in the blanks), you'll need a combination of everything you've received in class to ensure you have all the content you need to score your best.
6. Pull An All-Nighter If You Want To Ace Your Test.
That's probably the worst thing you can do if you want that elusive 100%. The smartest thing is to start early and study often (time and repetition being key to real learning), but your brain is going to malfunction if you show up to the test with a sleep deficit the size of Utah. Study late, but get to bed. Get at least seven hours of sleep if you want your brain to function normally. Otherwise, you'll be in survival mode, having a difficult time keeping track of anything let alone what you were discussing in Part two of your essay test.

Live in the present moment
To a large degree, the measure of our peace of mind is determined by how much we are able to live in the present moment.Irrespective of what happened yesterday or last year, and what may or may not happen tomorrow, the present moment is where you are --always.
Without question, many of us h*e mastered the neurotic art of spending much of our lives worrying about a variety of things --all at once.We allow past problems and future concerns to dominate our present moments,so much so that we end up anxious, frustrated, depressed, and hopeless.
On the flip side,we also postpone our gratification, our stated priorities, and our happiness, often convincing ourselves that ‘someday’ will be better than today.Unfortunately, the same mental dynamics that tell us to look toward the future will only repeat themselves so that “someday ” never actually arrives.
John Lennon once said,‘Life is what’s happening while we’re busy making other plans.’When we’re busy making ‘other plans’,our children are busy growing up,the people we love are moving away and dying, our bodies are getting out of shape, and our dreams are slipping away.In short,we miss out on life.
Many people live as if life were a dress rehearsal5 for some later date.It isn’t.In fact,no one has a guarantee that he or she will be here tomorrow. Now is the only time we h*e,and the only time that we h*e any control over. When our attention is in the present moment,we push fear from our minds.Fear is the concern over events that might happen in the future--we won’ t h*e enough money, our children will get into trouble,we will get old and die, whatever.
To combat fear, the best strategy6) is to learn to bring your attention back to the present.Mark Twain said,‘I h*e been through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.I don’t think I can say it any better.Practice keeping your attention on the here and now.Your efforts will pay great dividends7).

On the surface, Chinatown is prosperous - a "model slum," some have called it - with the lowest crime rate, highest employment and least juvenile delinquency of any city district. Walk through its crowded streets at any time of day, and every shop is doing a brisk and businesslike trade: restaurant after restaurant is booming; there are storefront displays of shiny squids, clawing crabs and clambering lobster; and street markets offer overflowing piles of exotic green vegetables, garlic and ginger root. Chinatown has the feel of a land of plenty, and the reason why lies with the Chinese themselves: even here, in the very core of downtown Manhattan, they have been careful to preserve their own way of dealing with things, preferring to keep affairs close to the bond of the family and allowing few intrusions into a still-insular culture. There have been several concessions to Westerners - storefront signs now offer English translations, and Haagen Dazs and Baskin Robbins ice-cream stores have opened on lower Mott Street - but they can't help but seem
incongruous. The one time of the year when Chinatown bursts open is during the Chinese New Year festival, held each year on the first full moon after
January 19, when a giant dragon runs down Mott Street to the accompaniment of firecrackers, and the gutters run with ceremonial dyes.
Beneath the neighborhood's blithely prosperous facade, however, there is a darker underbelly. Sharp practices continue to flourish, with traditional
extortion and protection rackets still in business. Non-union sweatshops - their assembly lines grinding from early morning to late into the evening - are still visited by the US Department of Labor, who come to investigate workers' testimonies of being paid below minimum wage for seventy-plus-hour work weeks. Living conditions are abysmal for the poorer Chinese - mostly recent immigrants and the elderly - who reside in small rooms in overcrowded
tenements ill-kept by landlords. Yet, because the community has been
cloistered for so long and has only just begun to seek help from city officials for its internal problems, you won't detect any hint of difficulties unless you reside in Chinatown for a considerable length of time.
The ray of the warm sunlight told us that it was spring. A lion was sleeping peacefully in the forest.
While the lion was fast asleep, a mouse went on top of the lion. The bold mouse played happily on top of the lion. "Yuppie! This is really fun." The mouse ran around thumping and stomping here and there.
The lion was not able to sleep with all the racket. The lion knew that there was someone on top of him. So, the lion made a surprise attack and rolled on the ground.
And the mouse fell over. When the lion saw the mouse he was relieved and said, "Whew! It was only a mouse."
However, far away a fox had seen the scene. The fox laughed mockingly to the lion and said, "You're as big as a mountain and you're afraid of the mouse. You're a coward!" The fox kept making fun of the Lion.
Finally the lion spoke, "I wasn't afraid of the mouse. I was only shocked to find a bold enough animal not afraid to run around on top of a lion." When the fox heard this he quietly left.

People often wonder why historians go to so much trouble to preserve millions of books, documents and records.
Why do we have libraries? What good are these documents and history books? Why do we record and save the actions of men, the negotiations1 of government officials and the events during wars?
We do it because, sometimes, the voice of experience can cause us to stop, look and listen. Sometimes, past records, when understood in the right way, can help us decide what to do and what not to do. If we are ever to create lasting peace, we must seek its origins in human experience and in the records of human history.
From the stories of courage and devotion of men and women, we create the inspirations of youth. History records the suffering, the self-denial2, the devotion, and the heroic deeds of people in the past. These records can help us when we are confused and when we really need peace.
The main purpose of history is to create a better world. History gives a warning to those who promote war, and inspiration to those who seek peace.
In short, history helps us learn. Yesterday’s records can keep us from repeating yesterday’s mistakes. And from the pieces of mosaic4 assembled5 by historians come the great murals6 which represent the progress of mankind.
A Nail Or A Fly?
An old gentleman whose eyesight was failing came to stay in a hotel room with a bottle of wine in each hand. On the wall there was a fly which he took for a nail. So the moment he hung them on, the bottles fell broken and the wine spilt all over the floor. When a waitress discovered what had happened, she showed deep sympathy for him and decided to do him a favor.
So the next morning when he was out taking a walk in the roof garden, she hammered a nail exactly where the fly had stayed.
Now the old man entered his room. The smell of the spilt wine reminded him of the accident. When he looked up at the wall, he found the fly was there again! He walked to it carefully and slapped it with all his strength. On hearing a loud cry, the kind-hearted waitress rushed in. To her great surprise, the poor old man was there sitting on the floor, his teeth clenched and his right hand bleeding!
The first snow came. How beautiful it was, falling so silently all day long, all night long, on the mountains, on the meadows, on the roofs of the living, on the graves of the dead! All white save the river, that marked its course by a winding black line across the landscape; and the leafless trees, duanwenw.com that against the leaden sky now revealed more fully the wonderful beauty and intricacies of their branches. What silence, too, came with the snow, and what seclusion! Every sound was muffled, every noise changed to something soft and musical. No more tramping hoofs, no more rattling wheels! Only the chiming of the sleigh-bells, beating as swift and merrily as the hearts of children.

Baby frogs went on a picnic in the woods. Getting out of the pond for the first time, they sang merrily.
Then, they found a cow grazing in a field. "Oh, my! What is that?" "It is huge!" All of them wondered what kind of animal it was. "Let's ask Daddy."
They returned home in a hurry and shouted, "Daddy, we saw a strange animal." "What kind of animal was it?"
"It had large horns on its head and its body was way bigger than you. Even if we all add up our power, we can not defeat that animal."
The father was curious what the animal looked like. "Really? Was it bigger than my stomach?" "Yes. Much bigger than that!"

The big rocks
大石块
One day an expert in time management was speaking to a group of business students and, to drive home a point, used an illustration those students will never forget. As he stood in front of the group of high-powered over-achievers he said, "Okay, time for a quiz.” Then hepulled out a one-gallon, wide-mouthed Mason jar and set it on the table in front of him. He then produced about a dozen fist-sized rocks and carefully placed them, one at a time, into the jar. When the jar was filled to the top and no more rocks would fit inside, he asked, "Is the jar full?" Everyone in the class said, "Yes."
He replied, "Really?"
He reached under the table and pulled out a bucket of gravel, then dumped some gravel in and shook the jar causing pieces of gravel to work themselves down into the space between the big rocks.
He asked the group once more, "Is the jar full?"
By this time the class was on to him. "Probably not," one of them answered.
"Good!" he replied.
He reached under the table and brought out a bucket of sand. He started dumping the sand in the jar and it went into all the spaces left between the rocks and the gravel. Once more he asked the question,"Is the jar full?"
"No!" the class shouted.
Once again he said, "Good!"
Then he grabbed a pitcher of water and began to pour it in until the jar was filled to the brim. Then he looked at the class and asked, "What is the point of this illustration?" One eager student raised her hand and said, "The point is, no matter how full your schedule is, if
you try really hard you can always fit some more things in!"
"Good answer, but no," the speaker replied, "that’s not my point. The truth this illustration teaches us is: If you don’t put the big rocks in first, you’ll never get them in at all. What are the ’big rocks" in your life? In my life they are my children... my wife... my loved ones... my education... my dreams... charities and worthy causes... teaching or mentoring others... doing things that I love... time for myself... my health... Remember to put these BIG ROCKS in first or you’ll never get them in at all."
If you sweat the little stuff then you’ll fill your life with little things to worry about that don’t really matter, and you’ll never have the real quality time you need to spend on the big, important stuff :the big rocks.
Occasionally, life can be undeniably, impossibly difficult. We are faced with challenges and events that can seem overwhelming, life-destroying to the point where it may be hard to decide whether to keep going. But you always have a choice. Jessica Heslop shares her powerful, inspiring journey from the worst times in her life to the new life she has created for herself:

In 20xx I had the worst year of my life.
I worked in a finance job that I hated and I lived in a concrete jungle city with little greenery. I occupied my time with meaningless relationships and spent copious quantities of money on superficialities. I was searching for happiness and had no idea where to find it.
Then I fell ill with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and became virtually bed bound. I had to quit my job and subsequently was left with no income. I lived with my boyfriend of then only 3 months who financially supported me and our relationship was put under great pressure. I eventually regained my physical health, but not long after that I got a call from my family at home to say that my father’s cancer had fiercely progressed and that he had been admitted to a hospice.
I left the city and I went home to be with him.
He died 6 months later.
My father was a complete inspiration to me. He was always so strong that, for a minute after he drew his last breath, I honestly thought he would come back to life. I couldn’t believe I would never again cuddle into his big warm chest and feel safe no matter what.
The grief that followed was intense for all of us 5 children and our mother, but we had each other.
But my oldest sister at that time complained of a bad back. It got so bad after 2 months that she too was admitted to hospital.

A prince am I of ancestry renowned, Illustrious name my royal sire hath found.
When Sirius did in spring its light display, A child was born, and Tiger marked the day.
When first upon my face my lord's eye glanced, For me auspicious names he straight advanced;
Denoting that in me Heaven's marks divine,Should with the virtues of the earth combine.
With lavished innate qualities indued, By art and skill my talents I renewed;
Angelic herbs and sweet selineas too, And orchids late that by the water grew, I wove for ornament;
till creeping Time, Like water flowing, stole away my prime.
Magnolias of the glade I plucked at dawn, At eve beside the stream took winter-thorn.
Without delay the sun and moon sped fast, In swift succession spring and autumn passed;
The fallen flowers lay scattered on the ground, The dusk might fall before my dream was found.
Had I not loved my prime and spurned the vile, Why should I not have changed my former style?
My chariot drawn by steeds of race divine,I urged; to guide the king my sole design.
Three ancient kings there were so pure and true,That round them every fragrant flower grew;
Cassia and pepper of the mountain-side,With melilotus white in clusters vied.
Two monarchs then, who high renown received, Followed the kingly way, their goal achieved.
Two princes proud by lust their reign abused, Sought easier path, and their own steps confused.
The faction for illict pleasure longed; Dreadful their way where hidden perils thronged.
Danger against myself could not appal, But feared I lest my sovereign's sceptre fall.
Forward and back I hastened in my quest, Followed the former kings, and took no rest.
The prince my true integrity defamed, Gave ear to slander, high his anger flamed;
Integrity I knew could not avail, Yet still endured; my lord I would not fail.
Celestial spheres my witness be on high, I strove but for his sacred majesty.
Twas first to me he gave his plighted word, But soon repenting other counsel heard.
For me departure could arouse no pain; I grieved to see his royal purpose vain.
Nine fields of orchids at one time I grew, For melilot a hundred acres too.
And fifty acres for the azalea bright, The rumex fragrant and the lichen white.
I longed to see them yielding blossoms rare, And thought in season due the spoil to share.
I did not grieve to see them die away, But grieved because midst weeds they did decay.
Insatiable in lust and greediness, The faction strove, and tired not of excess;
Themselves condoning, others they'd decry, And steep their hearts in envious jealousy.
Insatiably they seized what they desired, It was not that to which my heart aspired.
As old age unrelenting hurried near, Lest my fair name should fail was all my fear.
Dew from magnolia leaves I drank at dawn, At eve for food were aster petals borne;
And loving thus the simple and the fair, How should I for my sallow features care?
With gathered vines I strung valeria white, And mixed with blue wistaria petals bright.
And melilotus matched with cassia sweet, With ivy green and tendrils long to meet.
Life I adapted to the ancient way, Leaving the manners of the present day;
Thus unconforming to the modern age, The path I followed of a bygone sage.
Long did I sigh and wipe away my tears, To see my people bowed by griefs and fears.
Though I my gifts enhanced and curbed my pride, At morn they'd mock me, would at eve deride;
First cursed that I angelica should wear, Then cursed me for my melilotus fair.
But since my heart did love such purity, I'd not regret a thousand deaths to die.
I marvel at the folly of the king, So heedless of his people's suffering.
They envied me my mothlike eyebrows fine, And so my name his damsels did malign.
Truly to craft alone their praise they paid, The square in measuring they disobeyed;
The use of common rules they held debased; With confidence their crooked lines they traced.
In sadness plunged and sunk in deepest gloom, Alone I drove on to my dreary doom.
In exile rather would I meet my end, Than to the baseness of their ways descend.
