　　“中秋节”不就是 Mid-Autum Festival 吗？
　　教科书上一般按国家规定把中秋节译为 Mid-Autumn Festival，不过常见的还有 Moon Festival，Harvest Moon Festival。陆谷孙先生在《余墨三集》中分享了他的看法：
　　我个人倒觉得Chinese Moon Festival 不但点出“月亮” “月饼”等节庆主题，也更有利于向外人介绍*文化。Mid-Autumn 反倒是趣味和个性全无的字面直译，何况东南亚有不少也在这天吃月饼过节的邻国，并不都采用“中秋”的说法；更何况美语里虽然也用 autumn 指秋天，文化程度不太高的美国人可能还是听着 fall 更自然。
　　最后他开玩笑说：要不，教我们的学生对英人说 Mid-Autumn，对美人说 Mid-fall？对着东南诸邻讲 Moon Festival？
　　从陆老的评论我们可以体会到他对语言和文化的敏感，这也提醒我们学*语言的同时要注意它的文化，不要把语言学死。
　　月饼英文怎么说
　　说完了“中秋节”的翻译，我们来学学“月饼”里的英文。
　　我们都知道月饼由 moon 和 cake 组成，这两个词的用法其实还挺多的。在这花好月圆夜，我们学几个用法。
　　moon 做名词有两常见的用法。一是over the moon表示“非常高兴”，另一个是once in a blue moon，表示“千载难逢”。moon 还常和 light 组 CP 变成月光moonlight，也可以表示“兼职”。moon 其实还常做动词。比如一天到晚游手好闲虚度光阴的故事就是moon around，类似的说法还有 mess/horse around；最神奇的时做动词时还能表示“对...露出屁股”，是个充满想象力的.表达，比如下图的 mooning，moon shots 可不是你想的那种月亮：
　　再说说 cake。我能想到和它相关的实用、高频表达有这样几个：
　　have ones cake and eat it，也就是咱们常说的“鱼和熊掌兼得”，咱们的鱼和熊掌到国外变成了蛋糕。
　　a piece of cake，多他妈大点事儿啊！类似的常见说法还有 xx is a breeze/cinch。
　　the icing on the cake，icing 是“糖衣/霜”，合在一起表示“锦上添花”。
　　看到这里 mooncake 是不是丰满多了，快吃一口，把它们统统记住。
　　最后咱们读读《经济学人》中的中秋节和月饼。2018 年《经济学人》写过一篇月饼和反腐的文章：
　　上面的*字Reading the crumbs挺有意思：我们常说 read the tea leaves，即“茶叶占卜法”，把茶喝完后观察茶渣形状然后预测未来。这里把 tea leaves 换作 crumbs，玩了同样的梗，杯中窥人，渣中见势。
